Thomas Hettenhouser has over twenty-five years of experience in metrology and calibration and over thirty years experience as an instructor in technical topics. He is currently a Calibration Program Manager for the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD. From 2005-2006, Mr. Hettenhouser owned and operated TH METROLOGY, in Vienna, Virginia, a consulting company advising clients in metrology and calibration issues and providing training in metrology and calibration subjects.
Previously, Mr. Hettenhouser served as National Technical Manager at Simco Electronics from 1996 to 2005. At Simco he established five advanced centers of excellence in metrology needs, managed METCAL automation installation across 17 centers and developed training curriculum for CCT preparation, FOA certification, and Workplace Training. While at Simco he was also involved in five corporate acquisitions, assisting with asset valuation, technology integration, process integration, and transition training. He managed all technical aspects of SIMCO's A2LA accreditation.
From 1983 to 1996, Mr. Hettenhouser worked as an Area Manager/Lab Manager at AEL Instrument Services, where he managed the proposal team and laboratory that won the largest metrology contract for AEL: the Applied Physics Lab. He also provided direct operations support to the sales effort and served as advisor to the director of instrument services on all technical and most operational issues. Prior to working at AEL, Mr. Hettenhouser worked for the US Air Force PMEL in telecommunications and training.
Mr. Hettenhouser is active in the National Conference of Standards Laboratories International, as a section coordinator and as a committee member. He is also active in the American Society for Quality. He received his training in Electronics Engineering Technology from Colorado Technical College in 1983 and has had extensive training in measurements, calibration and other topics since then.
